When + past simple x How long + present perfect
For example:
When did it started raining? It started raining at 5 o´clock.
How long has it been raining? It´s been raining for an hour.
FOR: we use for when we say a period of time (two hours, three hours, seven weeks...)
- two hours, a week, a long time, ages, seven month
SINCE: we use since when we say the start of a period (8 o´clock, Monday, 1984...)
- lunchtime, Christmas, April, June, 9 o´clock, 1990
For example:
I haven´t seen Sue for two days. I haven´t seen Sue since Monday.
I was washing the dishes for two hours!
